After guiding fly fishermen on our local spring creeks, the Yellowstone River, and Yellowstone National Park I would have been lost without these staples...
After finally "growing up" after decades of fly fishing and fly tying, I guess I have decided to go back to the basics from many years ago and re-discovered the thrill and beauty of tying and fishing soft hackles and wet flies such as these:
(Henry Mancini/Johnny Mercer): Didn't Johnny Mercer compose the songs to "Rudolph the Red Nose Raindeer"? I forget!
Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way
Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end, waitin' 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend, moon river, and me
(Moon river, wider than a mile)
(I'm crossin' you in style some day)
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way
Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after that same rainbow's end, waitin' 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend, moon river, and me
There’s an old man called the Mississippi
Now that’s the old man that I love to be
Oh what does he care if the world's got troubles?
What does he care if the land’s not free?
Ol' man river
That ol' man river
Well he must know somethin'
But he don't say nothin'
He keeps on rollin'
He just keeps rollin' along
And he don’t plant taters
And he don't plant cotton
Yes and them that plants 'em is soon forgotten
He keeps on rollin’
He just keeps rollin' along
Oh, you and me, we’re just the same
Bodies all achin' and wracked with pain
Tote that barge, lift that bale
You get a little drunk and you land in jail
I get weary
And sick of tryin'
Till I’m tired of livin'
And I’m scared of dyin'
But ol' man river, keeps on rollin’
That ol' man river, he just keeps on rollin’
I said that ol' man river, keeps on rollin’ along
Ol’ man river
